Geopolitical challenges decoded by DARE, HEC Paris’s media hub
Last February, HEC Paris launched DARE, its new media hub hosted on the HEC Paris website. Featuring articles and videos, DARE showcases start-ups supported by the HEC ecosystem, highlights the journeys of students and alumni, and shares insights from the School’s faculty.
One of DARE’s core ambitions is to shine a spotlight on the work of HEC Paris’s 180 professors, helping to inform public debate and inspire decision-makers. Guided by its motto, “Shaping perspectives, advancing solutions,” the media hub is part of the School’s broader strategic vision: to make a tangible contribution to addressing the major challenges shaping today’s world.
It is therefore no coincidence that DARE’s featured topic this month focuses on geopolitics, reflecting the upheavals of recent global events.
Throughout the series, HEC Paris professors examine how international relations are reshaping economic activity in an increasingly interconnected world. As geopolitical tensions intensify, “power and coercion have returned to the heart of economic life,” observe researchers Olivier Chatain and Jeremy Ghez (H.05). This new reality is forcing organisations to fundamentally rethink their approach to risk in a world where traditional assumptions no longer hold.

HEC Lab for Business & Geopolitics: An Award-Winning Initiative from the HEC Foundation
Among the contributors to the Business & Geopolitics: Operating in a Fragmented World feature are Jeremy Ghez (H.05) and Olivier Chatain. Last May, their HEC Lab for Business & Geopolitics received the Faculty Impact Award from the HEC Foundation.
As part of this new Lab, the two professors organised a conference in Paris bringing together academics, business leaders, experts and public policymakers. The event fostered a unique dialogue that provided valuable insights into the complex interactions between economic issues, geopolitical realities and industrial policy. The HEC Foundation jury praised the initiative, noting that “curiosity, open-mindedness and agility are essential to designing sustainable strategies and generating meaningful impact.”
