Alexis Lanternier (H.06) : From E-Commerce to Reinventing Deezer
Alexis Lanternier, a graduate of École Polytechnique and HEC Paris, is an e-commerce expert with an impressive track record. Having led giants like Amazon, Lazada, and Walmart, he took the reins as CEO of Deezer in 2024. A dynamic leader in his 40s, Alexis Lanternier has built a stellar reputation in the e-commerce industry. After earning his degrees from École Polytechnique in 2002 and HEC Paris, he began his career at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG) in Paris and New York, where he honed his expertise in e-commerce strategies.
In 2011, he joined Amazon France as Head of Marketing and Purchasing for the video games and apparel divisions. His success in these roles led him to Lazada, Southeast Asia’s e-commerce powerhouse, in 2014, where he became CEO. After Lazada, Lanternier continued to excel on the global stage. In 2019, he moved to Canada to join Walmart as EVP of E-Commerce, gaining invaluable experience in the dynamics of online commerce on a global scale. In 2021, he returned to France to co-found Branded with Pierre Poignant. This company specializes in acquiring high-potential e-commerce businesses and equipping them with the tools to thrive on platforms like Amazon and Alibaba.
His career took another exciting turn in September 2024 when he was appointed CEO of Deezer, the French music streaming platform. Entering a highly competitive industry dominated by Spotify, Lanternier brought with him a proven track record. In the first half of 2024, Deezer reported a 15% revenue increase, with its subscriber base growing to 10.5 million—a 14% year-on-year rise. With ambitious goals for 2024, including achieving positive EBITDA and cash flow, Lanternier faces the critical task of driving Deezer’s growth in an intensely competitive digital music landscape.
