Creative Destruction Lab (CDL) Paris, part of the IEI’s Deeptech Center, launched two new programs in 2024: Next-Generation Computing and Carbon Removal.

The vanguard initiatives complement the lab’s existing focus areas of climate, space, and artificial intelligence, and mark a sizeable step forward for fostering innovation. The Next-Generation Computing program aims to develop entrepreneurship and technological sovereignty in Europe, and stems from a French-German partnership between HEC Paris’s Innovation & Entrepreneurship Institute (IEI) and ESMT Berlin’s Institute for Deep Tech Innovation. With support from the Dieter Schwarz Foundation, the partnership was formalized on May 28 at the French Embassy in Berlin. Attendees included Éloïc Peyrache, dean of HEC Paris, Jörg Rocholl, president of ESMT Berlin, Sylvie Retailleau, French minister of higher education and research, and Jean-Noël Barrot (H.07), minister for Europe.
The Carbon Removal program launched on September by the IEI, CDL Global, and the XPrize Foundation, with focus on advancing carbon capture technologies. It includes a $100 million fund to support the most innovative startups in the field.
These two new programs further demonstrate CDL Paris and HEC’s commitment to strengthening Europe’s tech ecosystem and combating climate change.
